The girls are doing so well. We are starting to ready more advance chapter books. Some books we read and discuss here and others they take home so that we can do a book report when they get back here. We are still writing our pen pal letters, the girls seem to really love getting letters. This past year we have planted Pumpkins, celebrated Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and we are going to be celebrating Valentine's day tomorrow at our next meeting.

It's Book Club Time!
On September 29th we had a book club meet and greet. The meet and greet activity was planting in our special book club pumpkin garden! The 29th was only 4 days ago and we already have pumpkin sprouts coming out of the ground and looking very healthy!
First we had a picnic with fresh strawberries, cookies and crackers. Then we got started with the planting.
Once we were done planting I let the girls decorate their planting space with paint.
After that we did "book buddies". Since both book club were here we had the big girls read to the little girls. I went to the library earlier that day and picked our several books about gardening and pumpkins.
It was a really good day had by all. :)

It's School time!
First grade and now it time for the big 2nd graders to come over and have lots of fun. We hope to read tons of books, plants some fall vegetables, learn about safety and money management. We are also looking forward to writing our pen pal letters and practicing some phone etiquette! It should be such a fun, fun year.
I hope to be able to update this blog after each session since the girls will be able to have "camera days". The girls will be assigned a day to take pictures of our club and then around Christmas time we will be making a scrapbook of our experience. I hope that we will be able to finish our books and the girls can take them home as holiday gifts.
Of course we will also be doing the holiday baking party and this year at the girls recent "planning" meeting, they have asked if we can have a Halloween sleepover and party since it is on a Friday this year! :)
So I hope that you'll see more blogs from me really soon. Take care

Congratulations Graduates of First Grade!
Were off to Second Grade. This group of girls have amazed me as to how fast they learn. In the beginning of the year we had a great group of girls that some could read simple books and some could read bits and pieces of an Amelia Bedelia book. And here we are, the girls have advanced so much that even the weakest of readers in the group can pick up any reading material and read most of it if not all of it.
Sometime in the mid year of our book club we started writing pen pal letters. I allowed the girls to write their own letters and I helped them spell words. I am so excited to be able to share their learning process with out pen pals. The girls LOVED writing their letters and boy, oh boy, did they LOVE receiving letters back!
I have held the last meeting of the school year and I assure you I have sent them home with all the writing materials and information to be able to keep writing to you during the summer.
We will be having some play dates and movie dates this summer for the girls and I have invited them all to come back in September for the Second Grade Girls Book Club!!!

"Merry Christmas, Amelia Bedelia"
December 7th was a lot of fun. We started our first chapter book and we had a 7th birthday party celebration!

We started our first small chapter book on Dec. 7th. We flew through it so fast that we took a comprehension test after we were done completing half the book. Everyone was able to comprehend the story very well.
Once we were finished with our chapter book we had a birthday party for Meredith! Her actual birthday was that day! The week before she asked me to make cupcakes so we had chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing. Happy Birthday Meredith.
Next week we will be finishing up our Amelia Bedelia book and I'll be on the hunt for another book for the month of January.
See you soon girls.

Seven .... Oh my!!
One more little girl joined us last month. Now we have Seven! For a while I kept picking out too few books at the library and some of us had to share.
Unfortunately I didn't take pictures last week. We tried to decide on a "chapter book" Originally we picked "Judy Moody gets Famous". After I decided to read through the first few chapters I realized it was WAY too advanced. So we are going to meet in the middle and do a long story book. The first book that we are going to read together is "Merry Christmas, Amelia Bedelia". Amelia Bedelia is a great level 2 first reader that uses a lot of play on words. It should be great!
Our last meeting that I took pictures at was on Election Day. So to commemorate we had an open election. The girls grouped together in pairs of 2 and campaigned for "President" and "Vice President".
Here are all of the Campaign signs. There was a tie between Rachel and Sabrina. Sabrina was running for President as well as Rachel. Rachel declared FREE GREEN M&M's for all if elected and Sabrina said that she would be nice to all children.
The next meeting is during the first week of December when we start our "Merry Christmas Amelia Bedelia" book.
Have a great day!

And one more makes 6!
We now have six girls in our book club. The girls are having a blast!!!
our snacks aren't always healthy, but they're good! It's amazing how much a bunch of girls can eat! :)
Today we had a special halloween celebration at our book club meeting. Everyone read their books then we took turns with our second book. We then ate yummy dounts and had a spooky dance party. The girls made up some games on the front lawn then we made door knob hangers.
We're looking forward to our next meeting on Nov. 6th.
